The Empire Theatre has a rich and varied history. Built in 1882, it served as a roller skating rink and in the 1890s was converted into a theatrical playhouse. In the early 1900s, silent movies were first introduced, and the Empire continues to thrive as a movie theater and occasional playhouse today.
Thanks to the generous donations from all our supporters, the 133-year old Empire Theatre, one of the few remaining rustic theaters in the country, now has a state-of-the-art digital projection and sound system. The movie image is brighter and the sound clearer than ever before.
